Revesby Workers’ Club is now an affiliate of the Companion Card Program - a government funded fair ticketing program for people with a severe/profound disability.

What does this mean?

The Companion Card has been developed to reduce existing discriminatory ticketing practices of many entertainment, leisure and recreation venues/activities and services. People with a disability, who require attendant care type support, are often required to pay two admission and/or booking fees; one for themselves and one for their companion. This has the effect of increasing the admission and/or booking price for the person with a disability.

Under the Companion Card Program the participating venue or service will issue the cardholder with a second ticket for their companion at no charge. The card has a photograph of the cardholder and can be presented when booking or purchasing a ticket at events and venues, provided the cardholder requires attendant care support in order to participate at that particular activity.

This is another way in which RWC is happy to support and provide benefits to our community.

CLUB SAFE
ClubSAFE is the club industry's Responsible Conduct of Gambling Program. ClubSAFE, which was initially developed by ClubsNSW with significant input from the Australian Institute for Gambling Research, is a comprehensive package designed to help registered clubs manage responsible gambling operations that meet legislative requirements and community expectations. The ClubSAFE Program Statement

Responsible gambling management goes beyond simple compliance with legislation and regulation. It can be defined as decisions and actions taken by the Club industry that are desirable to the values and objectives of the community. Responsible gambling management practices seek to minimise the harm that may occur as a result of problem gambling.

ClubSAFE Principles
The five main principles of ClubSAFE are:

Compliance
For a management program to be effective, it must be accepted and adopted by the directors, management and staff of clubs.

Consumer Protection

Principles of fair trading have regard to consumer protection, good industry practice, an appropriate code of conduct and the law. Under ClubSAFE, clubs will have regard to legislation on consumer protection as well as the principles of fair trading. This includes providing an effective customer complaints resolution scheme and financial transaction policies.

Harm Minimisation
Management of responsible gambling means taking steps to minimise the potential for harm that may occur as a result of problem gambling and to maximise the benefits to consumers and the local community.

Harm minimisation refers to reducing the damaging effects of problem gambling and emphasising the promotion of community interests. The measure of achievement is not an ideal gambling level or situation, but whether the likelihood of damaging consequences has been reduced by the preventative measures.

ClubSAFE also expects clubs to provide guidance for patrons who seek assistance to deal with gambling problems.

Risk Management
ClubSAFE will assist clubs to minimise the business risk associated with gaming operations by encouraging the implementation of responsible gambling procedures.

Measurement of Effectiveness
The effectiveness of ClubSAFE can be measured by defining desirable outcomes, which can be club specific, and developing a number of key measures to define the effectiveness of the initiatives implemented.

The Bankstown Liquor Accord
is a local voluntary liquor partnership which aims to work with local communities to:

  • Minimise harm associated with alcohol consumption
  • Improve safety and amenities in local facilities
  • Reduce alcohol related violence and anti-social behaviour.

Liquor Accords are a pro-active means of creating safer neighbourhoods without the need to resort to regulation, enforcement action and ultimately court sanctions after problems have occurred. It is based on harm minimisation and the Responsible Service of Alcohol principles contained within the liquor laws.

Whilst the Liquor Accord places particular emphasis on the roles and responsibilities of local licensees, it is supported by the complimentary actions of:

  • Bankstown City Council;
  • NSW Police; and
  • the NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing.

It also focuses on patrons and their responsibilities regarding the consumption of alcohol and in improving public safety. All parties undertake the principles to improve the safety and environment in the Bankstown local government area.
